Ride of Silence is in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.
WHY DOES THIS ORGANIZATION EXIST?
•To HONOR those who have been injured or killed
•To RAISE AWARENESS that we are here
•To ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD
THE RIDE OF SILENCE WILL NOT BE QUIET
The Ride of Silence is an annual event held simultaneously in hundreds of cities across the globe, an event to remember the cyclists that have been injured or killed while cycling on the roads, and a way to promote cycling, safe cycling and roadway sharing.
The Ride of Silence is also an opportunity to give breath to the deceased and to provide a safe environment for those left behind to carry forward the message of cycling.
Since the inaugural Ride of Silence in Dallas, Texas (US) in May 2003 (read the full history here...), the Ride of Silence has grown to host simultaneous events in more than 400 cities across 30 countries and on all 7 continents.
The Ride of Silence organization is composed exclusively of volunteers. We have no sponsors, nor are we sanctioned by any government, public or private agencies. Our growth, and success, is solely attributed to the solidarity of our message and to the meaning it holds to the Ride of Silence participants and supporters.
The Ride of Silence is free of charge and open to all without registration or affiliations, we only ask cyclists to ride no faster than 20 Km/h (12 mph) and to remain silent throughout the ride.
In Singapore, everyday two cyclists are hit by a motor vehicle, of which, every two weeks, one results in a fatality.
Ride of Silence Singapore takes place on the 3rd Saturday of May, flagging off at 10am from Marina Bay Sands Promenade.
